Frequently
Asked Questions
What
is the difference between the practice question books? Are
the questions different?
Each one of our books stands on its own and is unique. We
hire new authors for each set of questions. So even if the
same topic is addressed in a question, it will be approached
from a different perspective. Obviously, the more current
books have newer references and medical information. If more
than one book is published per specialty in the same year,
each book will hold entirely different questions. Each book
may even have a different set of contributors. One question
book holds 250 questions. From year to year our contributor
base changes and that will affect the number of questions
published during that year.
What
does it mean when you say Book 1, Book 2 or Book 3?
Each
year we recruit new authors to write material for us. The
number of books that we publish will be determined by the
number of authors that we contract with for that particular
year. We DO NOT update material from previous years. So 2004
Book 1 is NOT an updated version of 2000 Book 1. It is entirely
new material. We simply separate the questions into groups
of 250 for each book.
Do
you ship to international customers?
We
do not ship printed material outside of the United States.
We are happy to fill orders for ebooks however. Please submit
your order online and the ebook product will be emailed to
you within one business day. There is NO
shipping fee for ebook delivery.
Where
do the authors get their information?
We
hire board certified, university based physicians to write
our materials. Our authors are residency program directors,
professors, assistant professors and beyond. They know what
you NEED to know for in-service and board certification exams.
Why
is there a gap in the publishing dates?
Medtext was reorganized in 2003. For a couple of
years before that, very few new materials were published.
Since then we have published more than 15 new books, added
three new specialties and are looking forward to continuous
growth going forward!
Why do you offer a money
back guarantee?
Our materials are written with the sole purpose of helping
you pass the boards. We are so confident in our study and
test-taking system (Mastering the Written Boards) and the
accuracy of our practice questions, that we back it up with
a guarantee.
How does one become an author for
Medtext?
All of our authors must apply and meet the minimum requirements
(board certified, state license, etc.) prior to being considered.
Then each potential author has to submit a sample writing
(usually practice questions on topics supplied by Medtext)
for review. Our goal is to use authors that not only have
superior knowledge but are also talented writers who can provide
mnemonics and write in a clear and concise manner. If you
would like to be considered as a contributing author, please

How long will it take to get my order?
Most orders ship the same day or next business day, depending
on the time of day the order is placed. We ship FedEx Ground
and FedEx Express. Most orders will be received within 5-7
business days. If you absolutely need your order in one or
two days, then the order should be shipped overnight or 2-day
FedEx (at an additional charge). Medtext is closed
for all major holidays - your order will be
processed the following business day.
How many questions are in the visual
recognition book?
Both the internal medicine and family medicine visual question
books have approximately 70 questions.
How many pages are in the books?
This varies from book to book. In general, practice question
books are 200-300 pages. Keyword books are 200-400 pages and
the syllabus books are 400-600 pages.
Which book is the best one for me
to buy?
The most common order is two or more practice question books
and Mastering the Written Boards. (This order qualifies for
the “you pass or we pay” guarantee.) The vast
majority of physicians feel that doing as many practice questions
as possible prior to the exam is extremely beneficial. The
courses on video, syllabuses, and keyword books are designed
to fill in the gaps of the required knowledge base for the
exam.
If I don’t purchase the study
system but purchase 3 books, do I still qualify for the pass/pay
guarantee?
No. We feel that the information in this book is extremely
important. Therefore, you must include Mastering the Written
Boards (the Medtext study and test taking system) in your
order to qualify for the “you pass or we pay”
guarantee.
What
if I don’t like the materials, can I return them?
We feel that you will be totally satisfied with the accuracy
of the material as it relates to your board exam and that
you will not want to return anything. However, we will accept
returns in the following two circumstances:
- the
package is refused or returned unopened
- material
is damaged (we will replace it at our expense)
Due
to the nature of the material (easily duplicated), orders
cannot be reviewed and then returned. Again, we back up our
material with a $100 money
back guarantee, so you either pass your exam or get money
back.
If
it's necessary to exchange materials, we will promptly ship
the replacement item to you. You will then be required to
ship the incorrect materials back to us within 30 days. If
we have not received the original materials within 30 days,
your credit card will be charged for the second shipment.
